Sadler's Wells Theatre

Sadler's Wells Theatre in Islington has been one of London's foremost dance venues for centuries, with roots stretching back to a pleasure garden established in the 1680s. The current building, rebuilt and reopened in 1998, was designed to serve as a dedicated house for dance in all its forms, from classical ballet to contemporary choreography and physical theatre. On stage at present is The Car Man, Matthew Bourne's acclaimed reimagining of Bizet's Carmen, transposed to a 1960s American setting and performed entirely through dance. New Adventures, Bourne's company, has brought the production back to Sadler's Wells on multiple occasions since its premiere, and its combination of noir storytelling, athletic choreography, and cinematic design has made it one of the most celebrated dance productions in British theatre history.
