Páros 指南
Few Aegean islands carry their reputation as quietly as Páros does. Where some of its neighbours trade on spectacle, Páros earns its standing through a particular combination of marble-white villages, clear turquoise water, and a pace of life that feels genuinely unhurried rather than performed. It sits at the geographical centre of the Cyclades, and that centrality is not merely cartographic: ferries radiate outward from Parikia, the island's port capital, making Páros a natural base for anyone wanting to move through the archipelago without the logistical weight of Athens.
Parikia itself rewards slow exploration. The old town, known as the Kastro, was built largely from the ruins of an ancient temple to Athena, and fragments of classical column drums are still visible embedded in its medieval walls. The Panagia Ekatontapyliani, one of the oldest standing churches in Greece, anchors the waterfront quarter and has been a place of Christian worship since at least the fourth century. Its name, meaning the Church of a Hundred Doors, comes with a legend that ninety-nine of those doors have been found and the hundredth will only reveal itself when Constantinople is returned to Greece. Whether or not one counts the doors, the building itself is architecturally remarkable, a layered accumulation of Byzantine construction that feels entirely at odds with the bright Cycladic light outside.
