Hackescher Markt

Hackescher Markt is one of central Berlin's most recognisable public squares, situated in the Mitte district at the junction of the S-Bahn viaduct and the Spree riverbank. The square takes its name from Hans Christoph Friedrich von Hacke, an eighteenth-century Prussian military commander who oversaw early development of the area. Today it serves as a lively hub connecting the Scheunenviertel quarter, the Hackesche Höfe courtyard complex, and the waterfront, making it a natural starting point for exploring the city on foot or by water.

From the landing stages close to Hackescher Markt, visitors can join a one-hour sightseeing cruise along the River Spree, passing landmarks including the Berlin Cathedral, Museum Island, and the Berliner Dom as the boat moves through the historic core of the city. The cruise offers a perspective on Berlin's layered architecture that is difficult to appreciate from street level, tracing the waterway that has shaped the city's layout for centuries.
