The surrounding blocks have been reshaped considerably in recent decades, with the Eccles Theater bringing serious performing arts programming to the centre and the Natural History Museum of Utah, up on the University of Utah campus, housing one of the finest dinosaur collections in North America. The university district sits on a bench of land above the city proper, offering views across the valley that clarify just how deliberately the original settlement was positioned.
