Oosterdok 2 is the address of NEMO Science Museum, Amsterdam's largest science centre, housed in a striking copper-green building designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano and completed in 1997. The structure rises above the entrance to the IJ tunnel in the eastern docklands, its sloping roofline forming a broad public terrace that offers sweeping views across the city's waterfront and historic centre. NEMO was conceived as a place where visitors of all ages could engage directly with science and technology through hands-on exhibits spread across five floors, covering topics from energy and light to the human body and digital systems.

The museum's position on the Oosterdok waterfront places it within easy reach of Amsterdam Centraal station and the broader cultural district that includes the Scheepvaartmuseum. A popular combination experience pairs a NEMO visit with an Amsterdam canal cruise, allowing guests to explore the city's celebrated waterway network after time spent inside the museum. The rooftop terrace, accessible free of charge, has become one of the most photographed vantage points in the city.
