Saint-Ours sits in the Puy-de-Dôme department of the Auvergne region in central France, a quiet commune whose name would mean little to most travellers were it not for one remarkable fact: it stands at the foot of an extinct volcanic landscape that ranks among the most geologically significant in Europe.
