Dreamgirls Tickets: The Legendary Musical Returns to Broadway
Dreamgirls is coming back to Broadway for the first time in nearly four decades, bringing Tom Eyen and Henry Krieger's powerhouse musical to a new generation. This landmark show follows three young women from a 1960s Chicago girl group through the highs, betrayals, and heartbreak of the music industry, with a score that includes "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going," one of the most electrifying songs in Broadway history.
The Story
Set against the backdrop of the American R&B scene from the early 1960s through the 1970s, Dreamgirls charts the rise of The Dreams, a vocal trio inspired by groups like The Supremes. When ambitious manager Curtis Taylor Jr. takes control of the group, he reshapes their sound and image for crossover success, pushing lead singer Effie White aside in favor of the more commercially appealing Deena Jones. The resulting fallout tests friendships, loyalty, and the price of fame in an industry that rewards image over talent.
Cast and Creative Team
This revival is directed and choreographed by Camille A. Brown, making her the first Black woman to both direct and choreograph a Broadway musical in over 65 years. Brown's work on for colored girls who have considered suicide and Choir Boy earned widespread acclaim. Casting is underway through a worldwide search for the next generation of Dreams.
