About the venue

About this venue

Lisbon Zoo occupies a sprawling site in the Sete Rios district, set within grounds that include a historic palace and gardens dating back to the nineteenth century. It is one of the oldest zoological gardens in Europe and houses more than two thousand animals representing several hundred species, from African elephants and giant pandas to Komodo dragons and Californian sea lions. The zoo is also home to a botanical collection that gives the grounds a distinctive character beyond a conventional animal park.

The site is laid out across landscaped terrain that makes it one of the more visually distinctive zoos on the Iberian Peninsula. A cable car crosses above several of the enclosures, offering an aerial perspective of the grounds. The current fast track ticket option allows visitors to enter without queuing at the main gate, making it a practical choice for those who want to move directly into the zoo and spend more time exploring its collection.
