Informazioni su questo luogo

Apsley House stands at Hyde Park Corner in London, occupying one of the most prominent addresses in the city: Number One, London. Originally built for Baron Apsley and later acquired by the first Duke of Wellington, the house became the London residence of Arthur Wellesley following his victories in the Napoleonic Wars. Robert Adam designed the original structure, and it was subsequently enlarged and remodelled in the early nineteenth century to reflect the Duke's status as a national hero.

Today the house operates as a museum managed by English Heritage, displaying the Duke of Wellington's remarkable collection of paintings, porcelain, silver, and sculpture. Works by Velázquez, Goya, and Rubens hang alongside portraits and military memorabilia that trace one of Britain's most celebrated military careers. A monumental nude statue of Napoleon by Canova dominates the stairwell, a striking centrepiece that draws visitors from around the world. Entry tickets are available, giving access to the principal rooms and the collections within.
