Santorini

Santorini is one of the most recognisable islands in the Aegean Sea, formed from the remnants of one of the largest volcanic eruptions in recorded history. The caldera, created by that ancient collapse, now defines the island's dramatic landscape: steep cliffs dropping to deep blue water, with the whitewashed villages of Fira and Oia perched along the rim. Athens serves as the primary gateway to the island, with frequent ferry and flight connections making it the natural starting point for visitors.

Among the most compelling ways to experience Santorini's geological character is by sea. The day cruise departing from Fira takes visitors across the caldera to the active volcanic islet of Nea Kameni, where the landscape remains raw and sulphurous, and on to the warm mineral springs near Palea Kameni.
