Kuala Selangor sits at the northern end of the state where the Selangor River meets the sea, and it remains one of the more quietly compelling destinations in the region. The Sky Mirror experience, which takes visitors out to a vast tidal sandflat that appears at low tide in the Strait of Malacca, has become one of the most photographed natural phenomena in peninsular Malaysia. The sandflat's reflective surface creates an almost disorienting sense of sky and ground merging, and the timing of any visit is dictated entirely by tidal patterns rather than convenience. Firefly watching along the riverbanks at Kampung Kuantan is another reason people make the drive north, the synchronised bioluminescence of the kelip-kelip fireflies having drawn curious travellers for decades.
