Few places in Thailand announce themselves quite so dramatically as Krabi. The limestone offers routes for beginners and experienced climbers alike, and a guided course with hotel transfers is among the more distinctive ways to spend a day in Krabi, combining physical challenge with views across the Andaman that are difficult to replicate anywhere else. The same formations that make Railay a climber's destination also make the surrounding waters extraordinary for kayaking; paddling through the mangrove channels of Ao Thalane at low tide, when the root systems emerge and the light filters through the canopy, is a quieter counterpoint to the open-sea excursions that dominate the itineraries of most visitors.
