Wanted Tickets: A True Story of Outlaw Sisters on Broadway

Wanted is a new Broadway musical telling the mostly true story of Mary and Martha Clarke, extraordinary Black twin sisters who became outlaws while fighting to save their mother's home from sharecropper debt in 1893 Texas. With a book and lyrics by Angelica Cheri (a descendant of the Clarke sisters) and music by Ross Baum, this is an original American story with a powerhouse score.

The Story

In post-Reconstruction Texas, Mary and Martha Clarke are farm girls whose family faces losing everything to predatory debt practices. When legal channels fail, the twins take matters into their own hands, embarking on a journey that transforms them from ordinary sisters into legendary figures. The musical charts their path with a score that blends gospel, country, blues, and contemporary Broadway styles.

Cast and Creative Team

Directed by Obie winner and Tony nominee Stevie Walker-Webb. The musical premiered at Paper Mill Playhouse in 2024, where The New York Times called it a "thrillingly original new musical."
