Tosca is an opera by Giacomo Puccini, performed by English National Opera at the London Coliseum in the West End. First staged in 1900, the work follows the painter Cavaradossi, his lover Tosca, and the corrupt police chief Scarpia across three acts of political intrigue, jealousy, and violence set in Rome. The London Coliseum, opened in 1904 and designed by Frank Matcham, is one of the largest theatres in the city and the permanent home of English National Opera, with a capacity of around 2,350 seats.
The production is sung in English, in keeping with English National Opera's long-standing approach to performing opera in the language of its audience. The score includes some of Puccini's most recognised arias, among them Vissi d'arte and E lucevan le stelle. Tickets are available across multiple seating tiers, from the stalls to the upper circle, and the run is limited, so availability varies by performance date. Entry covers the full performance, and the Coliseum's bars and foyer spaces are open before the show and during the interval for those attending in London.
