Votre guide de Bagno di Romagna
Bagno di Romagna sits in the upper Savio valley, tucked into the Apennine mountains along the border between Emilia-Romagna and Tuscany. The town has been drawing visitors for its thermal waters since at least the medieval period, when the springs were already well known to travellers crossing the mountain passes between the two regions. That long relationship with water, warmth, and recuperation shapes the character of the place more than anything else: this is not a city of monuments or grand piazzas but a small mountain spa town whose identity is almost entirely bound up with the landscape around it and the thermal tradition within it.
The setting itself is worth understanding before arriving. The Savio river rises nearby, and the surrounding hills belong to the Parco Nazionale delle Foreste Casentinesi, Monte Falterona e Campigna, one of the most densely forested national parks in Italy. Beech and fir cover the slopes, and the air at this altitude carries a coolness even in summer that distinguishes Bagno di Romagna from the hot Adriatic coast a couple of hours to the east. The town is small enough to walk across in minutes, and the rhythm of a visit here tends to be unhurried almost by necessity.
