The Palais Galliera stands in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, a short walk from the Trocadéro and the Seine. Built in the Italian Renaissance style for the Duchess of Galliera and completed in 1894, the building was designed by the architect Léon Ginain. Its stone facades, arched galleries, and formal gardens have made it one of the more architecturally distinguished museum buildings in the city. Since 1977 it has served as the Musée de la Mode de la Ville de Paris, home to one of the world's most significant collections of clothing, accessories, and fashion archives, spanning three centuries of dress.

The museum currently presents two exhibitions drawn from that collection. Weaving, Embroidering, Embellishing explores the crafts and trades that underpin haute couture, from the ateliers of passementiers to the work of brodeurs. The Fashion in the 18th Century exhibition examines how dress functioned as social language in pre-Revolutionary France, drawing on the Galliera's holdings of silks, embroideries, and court costume. Together they reflect the museum's long-standing commitment to fashion as both cultural history and material art.
