درباره محل

درباره این محل

The Jerónimos Monastery in Belém stands as one of the finest examples of Manueline architecture in the world, its intricate stone carvings and soaring cloisters reflecting the ambition and maritime wealth of sixteenth-century Portugal. Commissioned by King Manuel I to celebrate Vasco da Gama's voyage to India, the monastery served for centuries as a place of worship, royal burial, and monastic life. The church of Santa Maria de Belém, which forms part of the complex, holds the tombs of da Gama himself and the poet Luís de Camões, making it a site of profound national significance. A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983, the building sits beside the Tagus estuary in the Belém district, a short distance from central Lisbon.

Visitors can explore the monastery through a guided tour combined with a walking tour of the surrounding Belém neighbourhood, or enter independently with a standard entry ticket. A hop-on hop-off bus option also connects the monastery to other landmarks across the city.
