Museum Het Schip stands in Amsterdam's Spaarndammerbuurt district as one of the finest examples of the Amsterdam School of architecture, a movement that flourished in the Netherlands during the early twentieth century. The building was designed by Michel de Klerk and completed in 1921, conceived as a social housing complex that also housed a post office and a meeting hall. Its expressive brickwork, sculpted facades, and inventive roofline made it an immediate landmark, and the structure takes its name from the ship-like form of its triangular plot.

Today the museum tells the story of the Amsterdam School through permanent displays of furniture, decorative arts, and architectural drawings, while the restored workers' dwelling and original post office interior give visitors a vivid sense of how the building functioned in daily life a century ago. The surrounding neighbourhood retains much of its early character, making a visit as much about the streets outside as the galleries within. Entry tickets are available for self-guided exploration of the collection.
