The Borges Labyrinth sits on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice, a short vaporetto ride across the water from Piazza San Marco. The labyrinth was created in honour of the Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges, whose short story The Garden of Forking Paths gave the world one of literature's most enduring metaphors for choice, time, and infinite possibility. Set within the grounds of the island's Benedictine monastery complex, the installation places visitors inside a living structure of tall hedges, inviting them to navigate a series of branching paths that echo the literary themes Borges spent a lifetime exploring.

San Giorgio Maggiore is itself one of Venice's most architecturally distinguished islands, home to the Palladian church of San Giorgio Maggiore and the Giorgio Cini Foundation, which has long supported arts and culture in the city. The labyrinth adds a contemplative, literary dimension to the island's existing cultural offer, drawing visitors who come as much for the ideas embedded in its design as for the views of the Venetian lagoon that surround it.
