Om dette sted

Casa Vicens stands in the Gràcia district of Barcelona as Antoni Gaudí's first major architectural work, designed in the 1880s when the architect was still in his twenties. The building marked a decisive break from the prevailing historicist styles of the period, drawing instead on Moorish and Oriental influences to produce a facade of extraordinary richness: geometric ceramic tiles, wrought-iron palm-leaf grilles, and polychrome surfaces that announced an entirely new architectural sensibility. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the Works of Antoni Gaudí, the house was opened to the public as a museum in 2017 after extensive restoration.

Visitors today can explore the interiors and gardens that reveal how Gaudí's ideas about colour, craft, and natural form were already fully alive in this early commission. The museum offers skip-the-line tickets for independent visits as well as guided tours of the house itself. Casa Vicens also features in broader itineraries covering Barcelona's Gaudí heritage, including combined visits to his other landmark buildings across the city.
