Finestrat's lower reaches, around the Cala de Finestrat inlet, have developed considerably over recent decades, but the hilltop village itself has resisted the more intensive development that transformed its neighbour from a modest fishing settlement into a tower-block resort during the latter half of the twentieth century. The contrast is worth understanding before you arrive, because it shapes what you will actually find: quiet lanes and a local bar or two up on the hill, and a much fuller range of facilities and attractions once you descend towards the coast.
