Rome Gladiator Experience

The Rome Gladiator Experience brings visitors face to face with the martial culture of ancient Rome through a combination of museum exhibits and hands-on training. Set in Rome, the attraction is dedicated to the ludus, the gladiatorial school where fighters were drilled in the techniques that made them legends of the arena. Displays cover armour, weapons, and the social history of gladiators, from their legal status as infames to the crowd rituals that governed their fate.

The current programme pairs museum entry with a two-hour gladiator training session led by instructors from the Gruppo Storico Romano, a historical re-enactment association that has researched Roman combat methods for decades. Participants learn basic sword and shield drills in period-accurate kit, following a curriculum modelled on what ancient sources describe of real ludus training. It is an experience rooted in scholarship as much as spectacle, and one that places Rome's gladiatorial past in direct, physical reach of those who visit.
