Sharjah occupies a singular position among the seven emirates, sharing a border with Dubai yet operating at a markedly different register. The island pairs botanical gardens with an illuminated art installation trail and a butterfly house that encloses hundreds of species within a climate-controlled dome, making it a genuinely unusual combination of natural history and landscape design. Tickets for the island can be purchased with or without butterfly house access depending on how much time a visitor has, and the experience reads differently at dusk when the light installations come into their own.
